Alternative Abstract
Abstract It is well known that during the past half century, China has enjoyed a great economic and social progress. The automotive industry played an important role in China?s industrialization process. China's automotive industry is one of the pillar industries that Chinese government aims to develop in future. China?s automotive industry will speed up its process of being merged with the economic globalization in the 21st century. At the same time, world-renowned automobile companies, MNC (Muti-national Corporation) will accelerate the domestic production of motor vehicles in China. Following China?s accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO) brought its automobile into the world multilateral trade system. After 15 years of grueling negotiations, China, on December 11, 2001, became the 143rd member of the WTO. China?s accession to the WTO has a great impact on the China?s automobile sector. Scholars, regarding this question, appear to have two opposing perspectives. The pessimists argue that the dimension of Chinese automotive industry are small and short history cannot compete with advanced countries such as the United States (US) and Germany, etc. And therefore, the WTO accession would have a negative impact on China?s automotive industry. The optimistic perspective alleges that upon China?s accession to the WTO, Chinese automotive industry will meet a scarce develop opportunity, the WTO accession would have a positive impact. Accordingly, at this situation, it is necessary that Chinese government take a greater and more aggressive role in the new round automobile negotiations and in pursuing reform of the domestic automobile sector. My research will reach the conclusion, indicates that China?s accession to WTO will bring China?s automotive industry opportunities are likely to be more than challenges, the advantageous impact more than the disadvantageous impact.
