This paper proposes improved speed control for a five-leg inverter that drives the two induction motor used in various fields. The improved control method includes two controllers: 1) The first controller controls slip frequency for maintaining the mechanical speed of two motors equally under the any load condition. 2) The second controller controls the electrical phase angle difference between the two motors for minimizing the common leg current because it can be twice higher than other leg`s current depending on the operation condition of the two-motor. Additionally, stability criterion of the proposed two controllers is implemented. Analysis results of maximum operation speed range and inverter efficiency shows the effectiveness of the improved speed control method. Finally, experimental results demonstrate the performance of the improved speed control for FLVSI.
