A simple turn-on angle control algorithm for switched reluctance motor (SRM) drives is proposed. In order to minimize the torque ripple which is the main problem of the SRM, a turn-on angle controller based on the fuzzy logic determines the optimal turn-on angle. The suggested algorithm does not require complex characteristics like a nonlinear modeling or angle-current-torque characteristics. According to the rotor speed and torque, the controller changes the turn-on angle continuously until the torque ripples are minimized. The simulation and experimental results verify the validity of minimizing the torque ripple performance.
