- 디지텰 기술의 발전과 네트워크 인프라의 진화에 따라 방송과 통신은 분리된 영역이었던 양 부분의 기술 발전과 수요의 다양화가 이루어지고 있으며, 망과 서비스의 구분이 점차 사라지고 있다 국내 케이블TV는 다채널이라는 강점을 가지고 화려하게 데뷔했지만 화질 및 단순한 프로그램 재전송이라는 한계를 극복하지 못하였다. 이에 케이블 사업자들은 보다 다양한 서비를 위하여 케이블TV의 디지털화를 추진하게 된다. 또한 최근 통신가입자들은 방송으로의 사업진출을 위한 IPTV를 추진하게 된다. IPTV를 대표 하는 용어로서 TPS(Triple Play Service)는 가입자에게 새로운 서비스 제공과 더불어 방송통신 융합이라는 새로운 모습으로 재편되고 있는 것 이다. 본 논문에서는 최근 자주 논의되고 있는 방송·통신 융합을 좀 더 구체적으로 이해 하기 위하여 거시적인 관점에서 디지털 컨버젼스를 이해하고, 방송·통신 융합으 기술적·경제적 동인, 국내외 통신사업자의 서비스 현황, 케이블과 IPTV의 서비스 특징 및 구조를 분석하고 각 사업자들이 경쟁에서 살아남을 수 있는 방안이 무엇인지 제시하고 마지막으로 방송·통신 융합서비스 발전 방향과 향후 과제를 제시하였다.
- Alternative Abstract
- With the development of digital technology and the evolution of network infrastructure, broadcasting and telecommunications, considered two separate domains in the past, are experiencing technological improvements and a diversification of demands, along with the gradual fading of the boundary between network and services. Domestic CATV was debuted with strength of multi-channels, but could not overcome the limit of simple program retransmission and a quality problem. Thus, cable business pursued digitalization of CATV for a variety of service. In addition, recent over-demand of communication service subscribers propelled for communication business to promote a new business, IPTV, in order to enter into broadcasting business. The representative term for IPTV, Triple Play Service (TPS) is now reorganized into a combination of new service provision and broadcasting communication. To better understand the current debate regarding the convergence of broadcasting and telecommuncations, this paper will first discuss digital convergence from a macro perspective. This will be followed by a study of the technical and economic motives behind this convergence and a survey of the current status of domestic and foreign telecos services. This paper will conclude with suggestions for the evolution path for the convergence service broadcasiting and telecommunication and analyze features and structures of cable and IPTV service and to suggest how to survive in the competiton.
