Alternative Abstract
The main objective of this work is to follow the most feasible procedure with a real electronic product and derive the new solution for product itself and further ecodesign processes. The ecodesign methodology allows the integration of environmental aspects into product design and development process in an effective way. Throughout implementing ecodesign, environmental harmful impacts of the product can be minimized during their entire life cycle while important cost savings and profits are generated. There are various tools and strategies have been developed, but the one of the most systematic approach based on IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission) ecodesign standard is chosen for the case study. A better implementing ecodesign of the product starts with a better understanding of the product. That’s why the product modeling is important part of the product development process. Second, environmental aspects and impacts of the product should be identified because product development implies not only the improvement of the product itself but also the improvement of the environmental impact caused by the product. By using the method of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), significant environmental aspects and key environmental issues are defined. Next, redesign tasks were implemented including Environmental Quality Function Deployment (EQFD), Environmental Benchmarking (EBM), the Ecodesign pilot’s assistant and Ecodesign pilot. Following the twelve steps, product concept is defined and the Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) is described.
