This thesis is concerned with the development of guidelines for design for assembly (DFA) to increase the productivity of electronic appliance assembly lines. There have been some DFA guidelines proposed. However, they are too general to be implemented in practice. In this study, actual problems and difficulties encountered while assembling of some electronic appliance products are investigated and grouped 7 categories. DFA guidelines appropriate for each category are selected to form a DFA guideline matrix. Some detail methods are also proposed to reduce the number of parts used. The validity of DFA guideline matrix is proved by some case studies.
