영어 논픽션 자료를 활용한 '중요한 것 결정하기' 교육방안

dc.description.abstract | 본 연구는 영어 논픽션 자료(Nonfiction Text)를 활용하여 농촌 초등학교 영어 학습자의 학습 흥미도를 높이는 수업 설계 및 수업 적용으로 효과를 알아보는데 목적이 있다. 농촌 지역 전형적인 EFL 환경인 여주의 초등학교 3~4학년 11명을 대상으로 4주 동안, 1주에 방과 후 50분씩 학습활동을 하였다. 1차시는 사고 구술하기와 중요하고 흥미로운 10가지 사실 기록하기, 2차시는 주제와 내용 구분하여 기록하기, 3차시는 사실-질문-반응 카드 만들기, 4차시는 찬·반 의견 제시하기 활동을 하였다. 활동 사전 사후에 설문을 실시하여 학습자의 영어 학습 태도 변화를 조사하고, 사후에 결과를 도출하였다. 조사 결과로 농촌지역에 살고 있는 활동참여자들은 하루에 30분 이상 영어 학습을 하고 있었으며, 학교에서 실시하는 방과 후 학습 및 학원과 과외를 통해서 6명, 혼자서 3명이 하고 있었다. 또, 영어 학습을 통해 잘 하고 싶어 하는 영역은 읽기가 5명, 말하기가 4명으로 나타났고, 듣기와 쓰기에는 별 관심이 없었다. 학교에서 영어 배우는 시간이 더 많아지면 좋다라는 의견은 0명으로 나타났다. 영어 수업을 재미있어하고 흥미를 보인 참여자는 1명에 불과하였다. 영어 논픽션 자료 읽기 활동 후, 재미있다라는 답변이 4명, 재미있지만 어렵다는 답변이 4명으로 긍정적 답변이 월등히 증가하였다. 수업 및 실력에 미치는 영향은 그렇다가 6명, 그렇지 않다가 3명으로 나왔다. 영어책 듣기 혹은 혼자 영어책 읽기나 영어 글쓰기를 해보고 싶다는 의견이 8명으로 나타나, 활동 후 참여자의 자기주도 학습의욕이 크게 증가하였음을 알 수 있다. 외국인을 만나 말을 하고 싶다는 대답도 6명으로 나타나 자신감도 함께 성장한 것을 볼 수 있다. 참여자들은 처음 연구에 참여 할 때보다 차시가 더해 가면서 중요한 것 결정하기 활동에 흥미로워 하며 적극적으로 참여하게 되었다. 그림 보고 제목 추측하기에서 단어를 2개 이상 답한 참여자가 전체의 9명이였고, 중요하고 흥미로운 10가지 사실 리스트 작성하기에서 5개 이상의 목록 작성자가 9명, 주제와 내용 구분하기에서 1개 이상의 문장을 작성한 참여자가 9명, 사실과 질문에 대한 반응 카드 만들기에서 자기질문과 1개 이상 답 끌어내기에 성공한 참여자가 8명, 자신의 의견 제시하기에서 찬·반 중 하나 이상의 의견을 제시한 참여자가 9명이었다. 참여자 대부분이 조사 항목에 모두 응답하는 높은 참여율을 보였다. ‘중요한 것 결정하기’ 전략 중 4가지 읽기 전략을 적용한 활동이 쉽다고 응답한 참여자자가 5명 이상이었다. 세부적으로는 사고 구술하기와 흥미 있고 중요한 사실 10가지 찾아 기술하기가 쉽다는 응답이 5명, 주제와 내용 구분하기 활동이 쉽다는 응답이 6명, 사실과 질문에 대한 반응 카드 만들기가 쉽다는 대답이 6명, 자신의 의견 제시하기가 쉽다는 답변이 5명으로 나타났다. 본 연구 활동인 ‘중요한 것 결정하기’ 전략 중 4가지 읽기 전략을 적용한 활동 결과로 영어 수업에 대한 재미와 흥미가 생겼다고 답한 학습자는 1명에서 5명으로 크게 증가하였고, 혼자 영어책을 읽거나 쓰기를 하고 싶다고 답한, 자기 주도 학습 의욕이 생긴 참여자도 2명에서 8명으로 크게 증가하였다. 결론적으로 ‘중요한 것 결정하기’ 전략을 적용한 논픽션 자료 읽기 수업은 영어 학습자의 흥미를 유발했으며 자료 내용을 이해하는데 도움이 되었다고 볼 수 있다. | - |
