Alternative Abstract
SW industry is the area with a big market and high growth rates worldwide, and also a leading knowledge-based industry in terms of creating value added and jobs. However, in the SW industry of South Korea, developed and systemic acquisition and management processes are unsatisfactory due to the lack of recognition of its quality and investment capability, and poor environment for SW developments, and are inferior to those of rival countries excluding some areas of SW industry. Especially in the U.S.A. and Japan, the international standard of ISO/IEC 12207 has already been applied to the SW industry and the improvement efforts for suitable acquisition and management processes for the conditions of their own countries are continuously being made. Therefore in order to increase the competitiveness of local information industry to the international standards, it is urgent to advance the acquisition and management processes of SW projects including those companies engaged in the information projects in the public business sector. For this purpose, the distribution and application of "the SW acquisition· management processes in the public business sector"are locally being promoted in 2004, being developed based on the international standard of ISO/IEC 12207, and with this efforts are being made in order to introduce the advanced processes in the public sector. This paper has verified the usefulness of guidelines for standard SW acquisition ·management processes in the public business sector by identifying the influence of the improved SW processes with the analysis on the results from the test application of standard processes in five public sectors, and is to contribute to increasing the success rate of SW projects
