This paper proposes highly reliability and stability operation of reverse matrix converter (RMC). The RMC is an AC/AC power converter operating in boost mode which is suitable for using in power generation system. In order to enhance the reliability and stability of this system, this paper approaches in two aspects, power quality improvement and switch fault detection. Due to absence of DC-link capacitor, an output power quality of the RMC deteriorates in case unbalance and harmonic problems occur in the input source. In this paper, two current control strategies are presented for dealing with these problems. Furthermore, a short fault detection strategy, which is intended for outer switches of current source inverter (CSI) in the RMC, is suggested. Since the switch fault causes current distortions transmitted to loads, it is directly related to the stability of the RMC system. The proposed fault detection strategy easily detects faulty switches by using current vector angle without additional components. The effectiveness of the proposed strategies is conducted simulation and experiment results.
