Alternative Abstract
Over the past decade, international remittance have been become one of the major sources of foreign income to Nepal. It is necessary to understand the negative effect of remittance on Nepalese economy. In this context, the main objective of this paper is to examine negative effects of remittances on economic development in Nepal through brain drain and income inequality. Indeed, the relationship between remittances and economic growth is highly controversial. When a country depends so much on outside sources to sustain its economy, the economy become volatile. Any change in employment rules or the economy of the hiring country can shake up the economy of the dependent. Remittances and brain drain is a double edge sword for Nepal economy. There are real dangers in over dependence on skilled migration and remittances, this adverse impact or the possible dangers are obvious and discussed. The result revealed that negative effect can create moral hazard, Dutch disease and brain drain in recipient home country. Another factor is that remittance do not suppliantly promote productive investment. Many people from Nepal going abroad for employment and education are no doubt young, energetic , labors and enthusiastic. Because of brain drain Nepal has been losing productive manpower day by day. Therefore the brain drain phenomena have been potentially damaging for the Nepal economy, it is too strong for the country.
