This paper proposes a simple sensorless control method based on an extended electromotive force (EEMF) models for an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor. The phase locked-loop (PLL) is used to obtain the phase angle of the grid. The d-axis voltage in a synchronous reference frame contains the information of the grid angle. Since the EEMF contains the position information of a motor, the proposed algorithm estimates the position and speed of a motor using a PLL based on an EEMF. The EEMF can be estimated by using a lease-order observer. Because the calculation burden is reduced by using the proposed algorithm without the fractional expression, the control period can be de decreased. The simulation and experiment results are provided to verify the effectiveness and performance of the proposed sensorless control method with no-load and load conditions.
