Two hundred and fifteen outpatients were selected for this study and
confirmed byInstitutionalReview Board in Ajou UniversityHospital. They
were surveyed by confirmed questionnaire and examined forcommunity
periodontalindex(CPI).
In thestudy,theindependentvariablesincludegeneraldemographicdata,
oralhealth behaviors,subjectiveperceptions,and experienceswith treating
a systematic or periodontal disease, and the dependent ones include
subjective periodontal symptoms and objective periodontal index. The
revised and supplemented questionnaire wasconfirmed forreliability and
validity. Statistical treatment methods employed in the study were descriptivestatisticsforeach variable,cross-tabulation to check differences
between variables, simple correlation analysis for relation between
subjective periodontal symptoms and objective periodontal index, and
simple linearregression analysisto check the effectsofthe independent
variablesonthedependentones.
The high age group and the dentaltreatment group showed common
symptoms,"food impaction"and "toothmobility".Theloweragegroup,no
recent treatment group(1year), no scaling group, and the no regular
check-upgroupwereallawareof"presenceofcalculus"insidethemouth.
CPIwasrelativelyhigh in thehigh agegroup and tooth extraction group.
Noscalinggroup recorded arelativelyhigherCPIthan scalinggroup.CPI
wasrelatively high among those who had hypertension ordiabetes. The

CPIhadpositive(+)correlationswithsubjectiveperiodontalstatusessuchas

Conclusively, there were many corresponding butnotthe same aspects
between subjective symptoms and objective periodontal index, which
