Alternative Abstract
Current solutions by 3GPP, such as NB-IoT are emerging to support cellular IoT, which is otherwise termed as Machine Type Communication (MTC). We focus on scheduling, a key function of the Radio Resource Management(RRM) protocol in LTE/LTE-A, in the context of supporting MTC. Scheduling algorithms for Human-to-Human(H2H) Communications have been an active research area up until now. All of them do take the channel quality of the users into consideration when assigning radio resources to them owing to the fact that there is a diversity in the H2H users in terms of channel variation. We claim considering this attribute is not necessary when it comes to scheduling MTC users particularly smart meters. We would rather concentrate on the QoS requirements of the MTC devices, and propose a more appropriate numerical model that can be used to calculate the grant times required for QoS constrained MTC users. A queueing model is adopted to analyze the waiting time distribution of the MTC traffic. A MATLAB code to calculate state probabilities and waiting time distribution for our model is also developed.
