We study the influence of disorder and surface plasmon excitations on the nanophotonic structure. First, we consider the Brewster anomaly phenomenon. We find that transmission is anomalously large and approaches unity at the critical incident angle even the disorder media. The Brewster angle is monotonically increasing function of the disorder parameter, whereas each maximum transmittance value is a decreasing one. Second, we study the influence of disorder on the photonic band structure of one-dimensional photonic crystals theoretically. We find that the photonic band gap becomes narrower and broader as the strength of disorder increases. For frequencies near the photonic band edge, the transmittance increases initially as the disorder strength increases, but decreases ultimately for strong disorder. Third, we investigate the surface plasmon excitations. We calculate the reflectance of p-polarized electromagnetic waves incident obliquely onto structures made of thin metal films. When plotted as a function of the incident angle, the reflectance shows several dips at certain angles. We give a physical interpretation of these dips by calculating the electromagnetic field distribution exactly. We find that in the structures where transmission of electromagnetic waves is allowed, a resonant transmission mediated by surface plasmons can occur. And we suggest that we can also calculate the reflectance, transmittance and field distribution exactly in more complicated structure, metal-dielectric photonic crystal.-
