Full-duplex (FD) has been in the spotlight as a promising solution for wireless networks. FD can theoretically improve double the throughput because it can transmit and receive packets simultaneously on the same frequency band. However, additional interference such as inter-node interference (INI) and self-interference (SI) occurs. Therefore, an FD pair considering interference must be established first to successful FD transmission. The existing HD MAC protocol cannot appropriately utilize the features of the FD technology. Thus, a new FD MAC protocol that can fully utilize the FD technology is required. This dissertation proposes the FD MAC protocols to support WLAN and UAV network. Moreover, analytical models are designed to analyze FD network throughput. It considers the FD pair probability, which has been rarely addressed to improve analysis accuracy. The first proposed FD MAC protocol considers fairness. There is a weighting factor associated with fairness. It can be calculated by using two parameters: the number of data reception, and the probability to be selected as the downlink (DL) node. Based on this weighting factor, the AP selects the DL node to establish the FD pair. The results of performance evaluation show that the proposed MAC protocol improves fairness. The second proposed FD MAC protocol is hybrid transmission switching MAC protocol. For FD, the required time for uplink (UL) and DL transmission may differ because the DL node suffers from INI. Even if the UL transmission is finished first, the UL node must keep silent until the DL transmission is finished. Therefore, the sequential transmission concept, in which the UL and DL data packets are transmitted sequentially, is proposed. In the sequential transmission, the DL transmission time can be reduced because INI does not occur. The transmission mode is switched to reduce the total transmission time. It compares the total transmission time for HD, FD, and sequential transmission modes and then selects one with the best throughput. The results of performance evaluation show that the hybrid transmission switching MAC protocol achieves better throughput than the conventional MAC protocols. The third proposed FD MAC protocol is an energy-efficient MAC protocol for FD drone base station (DBS). Energy efficiency for the DBS is an important issue because the battery life is limited. Therefore, the DBS establishes the FD pair considering energy-efficient. It calculates the energy efficiency weighting, which is the amount of energy consumed to transmit a unit of data of each node. Then, the DBS establishes the FD pair with the node that has the smallest energy efficiency weighting. The results of performance evaluation show that the energy-efficient MAC protocol improves throughput and reduces the DBS energy consumption.-
