Based on Gray's (1990) reinforcement sensitivity theory and revised model of emotional labor, this research found the causes and consequences of emotional labor strategies. For identifying the boundary condition of emotional labor, I proposed that job autonomy will moderate the effect of emotional labor on employee attitudes (burnout and engagement), through self-determination theory. At first, the result of main and mediation effects indicated that employees personality trait predicted focal outcomes via distinct emotional labor strategies. And then, the result of moderation analysis demonstrated the moderation effect of job autonomy. Thirdly, I examined the moderated mediation hypotheses, finding that both moderated mediation effects of job autonomy were significant. In addition, I examined several additional processes in my research framework. Lastly, the implications, limitations, and future research directions were discussed.-
