Alternative Abstract
This study verified the corrosion resistance of stainless steel brake disk how much improvement has been compared with conventional gray cast iron discs through a salt spray test. And then verified quantitatively falling of wear and friction performance due to the lack of thermal properties of stainless steel through a scale dynamometer, consequently compared to gray cast iron friction performance showed a similar trend but wear was increased. Low thermal conductivity and specific heat capacity of the stainless steel focused on the local and destroyed by the transfer layer is thought to be an increase in wear rate. In order to verify the heat treatment on the friction performance and wear resistance, three type of hardness of heat treatment stainless steel disc of experiments were performed. As a result, it was confirmed that the friction performance and wear resistance equivalent to the level of conventional gray cast iron in the samples of highest hardness HRc45. Considering in this study used the friction material optimized gray cast iron, apply to friction material suitable for stainless steel in the future, it is expected to show the wear performance than gray cast iron.
