This paper examines the status of gender inequality and the rationale behind the inequality in rural community of the Southwest region of Cameroon. The objective of the study is to bring out the causes and effects of gender inequalities in rural community which includes, low education, poor socio-economic conditions, societal trends, religious influence, culture and participation in decision making. It also tries to find out how gender inequality can be reduced if women are being empowered and given opportunity to contribute their own share in community growth.-
