Abstract | This research was aimed at investigating the role played by gender in environmental household waste management, in one of the districts in Douala called Akwa, Cameroon. The survey results prove that gender activities play an important role as far as the management of household waste is concerned. The results also show that the awareness of both men and women is required if sustainable waste management gold need to be achieved. Educational level of individuals, age groups and occupation all go a long way to pose as key factors to determine the awareness and practice which is involved in household environmental sustainability. The main methodological framework for this research employs triangulation across different types of research methods and analysis. The multiple sources of evidence include interviews, mail survey, questionnaires, personal observation and analysis of documentary evidence and qualitative methods Primary data was obtained by sending letters out to 150 households to invite both male and female participants in Akwa district of Douala, over the ages of 18 to be part of this. Letters to invite participation in the study were also attached to the front page of the questionnaire. A sample survey of 100 households was equally selected by a systematic random sampling technique including other methods email, or telephone. To better improve on the environmental household waste management, suggestions and recommendations have been listed in the last chapter (6) of this survey report. If these majors are followed, waste will only become a minor rather than a major problem and will boost the positive values of the sustainable waste management goals. | - |
