ABSTRACT
This paper represents the importance of the Garments Industry in economic development of Bangladesh. Bangladesh is a member of Least Developed Countries (LDC) with a very large population and limited natural resources. As a result a large portion of population is unemployed or underemployed. To improve this situation the sustainable development of this sector is very much essential. Bangladesh is trying to become a middle income country within 2021 which is very well known as a vision twenty one. To fulfill the vision twenty one, this industry can play a very vital rule. This industry enhances the economic growth and reduces poverty. The Garments Industry, therefore, is a vital industry for Bangladesh to exploit benefits by developing this sector. However, while there are benefits, there are challenges. The daunting task for the government as well as privet sector to nourish the industry, so that this sector can meet the future challenges properly. With the evidence of time series graphs, the effects of international trade on Bangladesh are positive regarding GDP growth rate, GDP per capita, imports and exports, poverty reduction, foreign direct investment (FDI) and so on. This research uses South Korea as a model for Bangladesh to discover the policies implemented by South Korean government to develop its infrastructure and technology and adopt more or less similar policies in Bangladesh Garments industry. In conclusion, I try to show which has happened until now and what will happen in the future if Bangladesh has done successfully some necessary reforms.
